CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL EDUCATION PARTNERS LAUNCHES KAPLAN ACADEMY OF CALIFORNIA, AN ONLINE PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL

Lynwood, CA, Sept. 2, 2008-California Virtual Education Partners today announced the launch of Kaplan Academy of California-Los Angeles, a tuition-free public school chartered by Lynwood Unified School District. Following final approval by the California State Board of Education, the new charter school will serve online students in Los Angeles, Kern, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties starting this fall. California Virtual Education Partners has partnered with Kaplan Virtual Education (KVE) to provide the curriculum, technology and management of the online school.

"Kaplan Academy of California will provide students and their parents with greater flexibility and accessibility to coursework that can be completed anywhere, any time," said Jonathan Zaff, President of California Virtual Education Partners. "Students in Lynwood Unified School District and beyond now have the option of taking rigorous, high-quality courses completely online."

Kaplan Academy of California will offer a robust web-based curriculum taught by California-certified teachers, who will use a variety of tools including virtual white boards-the equivalent of a real-time online blackboard-to demonstrate course work. The teachers, who will be employed by California Virtual Education Partners, will facilitate class discussions and instruct students via telephone, instant message and email.

Kaplan Academy of California students will be able to select from 80 core, honors and Advanced Placement courses that they can access from virtually anywhere at any time. The courses, designed to cater to different skill levels and keep students motivated, will be embedded with audio, video and other engaging teaching tools.
